The safe steps to unload a 20ft or 40ft container with a forklift, the capacity to use, and how to avoid the common mistakes.
Park the truck on firm level ground, chock the wheels, and open the doors carefully in case the load has shifted. Use a forklift that can reach inside the container, lift each pallet square to the forks, back out slowly, and set it down in a clear staging area. Work one pallet at a time and never rush.
For most container work a 3 to 5 ton forklift is enough, but heavy machinery or steel inside a 40ft container can need 7 to 10 ton. Just as important, the forklift and its mast must fit inside the container height, so the forks can reach the back pallets without hitting the roof.

The big ones are unloading on soft or sloped ground, opening doors without checking for shifted cargo, lifting loads that are too heavy or too far out on the forks, and rushing. Each of these risks a dropped load, a damaged container, or an injury. Slow and square is always faster in the end.
This is exactly the kind of job where an experienced operator earns their keep.
